A groundbreaking moment in motorsport has arrived in the UAE, where the world’s first fully autonomous Formula One race car is set to hit the track without a human driver.
The Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) of Abu Dhabi has revealed the EAV-25 — a $25 million AI-powered vehicle that represents a major milestone in both automotive engineering and artificial intelligence.
Futuristic Design and Advanced Technology
The EAV-25 features a futuristic design inspired by a hammerhead shark, with a unique T-shaped nose. Unlike a traditional Formula One car that costs around $12–15 million, this model’s advanced AI systems and high-tech components justify its $25 million valuation. Its steering wheel alone costs about $50,000, while its aerodynamic wings are valued at up to $500,000.
Despite its cutting-edge design, the EAV-25 runs on petrol fuel. It integrates powerful sensors, fast mobility stacks, and edge computing to process massive amounts of data in real time. Every part of the car is engineered to operate independently, as its onboard AI can make racing decisions within milliseconds.
Racing Without a Driver
The EAV-25 has no cockpit — and no driver. Its autonomous system has been trained using racing data from top Formula One drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, to perfect racing lines, speed control, and overtaking strategies.
According to Sultan Al Ali, vice president of Group 63, the AI system performs up to one million calculations per second to determine the fastest route and make instant decisions. The EAV-25 can reportedly reach speeds of 370 km/h, surpassing some traditional F1 cars.
Global Debut in Abu Dhabi
The EAV-25 is currently displayed at the Evolve Future Mobility Show at Expo Centre Sharjah. It will make its racing debut at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League at Yas Marina Circuit on November 15.
The league will feature 22 AI-powered cars competing for a prize pool of $2.25 million. The event underscores the UAE’s growing role in the global motorsport industry and its vision for innovation-driven progress.
