UN Security Council Urges Iran to Stop Attacks on Gulf States

The United Nations Security Council passed a new resolution on Wednesday calling on Iran to stop attacks on several Gulf countries. The decision has sparked criticism from Tehran, which described the move as unfair and politically motivated.

The UN Security resolution was approved by 13 votes. Two countries, China and Russia, chose to abstain from the vote. The resolution demands that the Iran immediately halt all attacks against Gulf states. These include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.

The text also condemns any attempt by Iran to interfere with international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This narrow waterway is a critical route for global oil and trade shipments. Many countries depend on its stability for energy supplies.

According to the UN Security resolution, protecting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is essential for the world economy. Any threat to this route could affect global energy markets and trade flows.

Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrainโ€™s ambassador to the United Nations, introduced the resolution. The proposal was supported by 135 countries. Alrowaiei said the Gulf region plays a vital role in the global economy.

He told the council that security in the Gulf is not only a regional issue. It is also an international responsibility. Stable energy supplies and economic balance depend on peace in this area, he added.

However, the UN Security vote did not mention recent strikes involving the United States and Israel against Iran. This omission angered Beijing and Moscow, which decided not to support the resolution fully.

Iran strongly criticized the decision after the vote. Iranโ€™s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, said the resolution misuses the authority of the Security Council. He argued that it serves the political interests of Washington and Tel Aviv.

Iravani said the resolution represents injustice toward Iran. He claimed that his country is the real victim of aggression in the current tensions.

Meanwhile, the United States welcomed the adoption of the resolution. US ambassador Mike Waltz said the vote shows strong international opposition to Iranian attacks.

Waltz said Iranโ€™s actions have created instability in the region. He added that attempts to pressure neighboring states have failed, as shown by the broad support for the UN Security resolution.
