UN Warns of Atrocities in Sudan’s El-Fasher Amid Escalating RSF Violence

The United Nations has issued a grave warning about ongoing atrocities in Sudan’s El-Fasher, as Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue violent attacks in the region.

According to UN reports, thousands of civilians are trapped in the city amid relentless shelling, looting, and targeted killings. The violence has intensified over the past week, with growing fears of a humanitarian disaster if fighting continues unchecked.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric described the situation as “deeply alarming,” stressing that El-Fasher could soon face a large-scale massacre if immediate international intervention does not occur. The UN has called on both sides — the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) — to halt hostilities and allow humanitarian access.

Witnesses have reported indiscriminate attacks on homes and hospitals, with essential supplies such as food, medicine, and water running critically low. Aid agencies warn that the humanitarian corridors remain blocked, preventing relief from reaching civilians in need.

The UN also highlighted evidence of ethnic targeting and sexual violence, urging the international community to act swiftly to protect civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023, when tensions between the military and RSF erupted into nationwide fighting, displacing millions and plunging the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

As the situation in El-Fasher deteriorates, the UN has reiterated its call for a ceasefire, safe passage for aid, and accountability for war crimes, warning that failure to act could lead to further atrocities in Darfur.
