Indian Sikh Woman Who Married Pakistani Man Faces Spy Claims, Possible Deportation

LAHORE โ€“ A former Punjab Assembly member has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, expressing concerns over an Indian Sikh woman who recently converted to Islam and married a Pakistani man. The petition alleges that she may be involved in espionage activities.

The plea, submitted by ex-MPA Mahinder Pall Singh, points to the unusual circumstances surrounding the Indian Sikh woman, named Sarbajit Kaur before her conversion. According to the petitioner, Kaur entered Pakistan on a single-entry pilgrimage visa, disappeared during her stay, and later married a local resident, raising questions about her intentions.

Singh noted that Kaur was reportedly allowed entry into Pakistan despite having a criminal background. He argued that this could indicate potential security risks. The petition also highlighted that her stay beyond her visa validity was unlawful, prompting fears of espionage.

The Indian Sikh woman, now known as Noor after embracing Islam, married 49-year-old Nasir Hussain from Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, on November 5. The couple fulfilled the agreed dowry of Rs10,000. Kaur had arrived in Pakistan on November 4 with a delegation of Sikh pilgrims attending religious ceremonies for Guru Nanakโ€™s birth anniversary.

Authorities reported her missing when she did not return with the group to India on November 13, the day her visa expired. Her later whereabouts became known after the marriage, but the petitioner contends that her actions warrant a full investigation.

The ex-MPA has requested the court to direct relevant agencies to detain the Indian Sikh woman, conduct a thorough inquiry, and consider deportation after completing the investigation.

This case has sparked debate about the security measures in place for foreign visitors and the legal procedures for monitoring visa compliance in Pakistan. Officials have not yet commented on the petition.
