Met Office Warns of Severe Cold Wave Across Pakistani Cities

Cold and dry weather is expected to continue across most parts of Pakistan as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its latest weather advisory. The department has warned that northern regions are likely to face severe cold during the morning and evening hours in the coming days.

According to PMD, temperatures in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northern Balochistan will drop further. Many areas in these regions are likely to record icy winds and long, cold nights. The weather office added that the ongoing dry spell could intensify the impact of severe cold, especially in high-altitude locations.

In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Islamabad and nearby areas, fog and smog are expected to increase. PMD noted a strong chance of dense fog during early morning and night hours, which could affect visibility and disrupt travel. Cities such as Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan may experience light to moderate fog in the early hours.

Southern Punjab, Sindh, and central Balochistan will remain mostly dry. However, residents may feel a slight rise in chill during the morning and evening as winter conditions gradually strengthen. Although these areas may not see severe cold, temperatures are expected to dip enough to impact daily routines.

Smog Situation in Lahore

Lahore continues to face serious air pollution challenges. The city once again ranked among the most polluted in the world, placing third on the global air quality index. On Friday, Lahore recorded an AQI of 212, a level that is considered hazardous for public health.

Health officials have advised citizens to stay indoors during peak smog hours and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory illnesses have been urged to take extra precautions.

Authorities say they are monitoring the situation closely and will issue further guidelines if pollution or winter conditions worsen.
