The Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, addressed the public for the first time regarding Faiz Hameed’s high-profile court martial. He described the matter as strictly “legal and judicial” and urged citizens to avoid speculation.
During a detailed briefing, the DG ISPR defended Pakistan’s national security policy, stressing that operations are only aimed at terrorism and not directed against Afghanistan or its people. “If Pakistan were to carry out an attack, it would do so openly, not secretly,” he stated.
Highlighting internal security challenges, the DG ISPR linked Faiz Hameed’s disciplinary proceedings to the broader fight against terrorism. He revealed that terrorists using advanced American weapons left in Afghanistan have carried out attacks inside Pakistan, including the recent assault on Wana Cadet College. Since November 4th, intelligence-led operations have resulted in 206 terrorists killed in 4,910 raids.
Lt Gen Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s demand remains the elimination of terrorist safe havens. He confirmed Afghan nationals were involved in four recent major attacks but clarified that any potential action would target terrorists, not civilians. He assured that proceedings regarding Faiz Hameed’s case are ongoing and that an official announcement will follow once a decision is made.
The DG ISPR also addressed border management challenges. He described the Pak-Afghan border in KP, which stretches 1,229 kilometers, as difficult to control due to treacherous terrain and divided villages. He accused the Afghan Taliban of fully facilitating terrorist movements into Pakistan and highlighted a “strong nexus of political-terror-crime” across the border.
Reiterating Pakistan’s stance, the DG ISPR said the country’s position on the Doha Agreement is clear: the Afghan Taliban must stop supporting terrorist groups operating against Pakistan.
The briefing reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to transparency, legal processes, and a firm stance against terrorism while urging the public to stay informed and avoid rumors surrounding Faiz Hameed’s court martial.
