Met Office Predicts Rain And Snowfall Across Parts of Pakistan Starting December 20

The Met Office forecast indicates that a weather system will affect upper parts of Pakistan starting December 20. The system is expected to bring rain and snow to various regions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain and snowfall will hit Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbella, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Chagai, Kharan, and Kalat districts from the evening of December 19 to December 20.

The Met Office forecast also warns of rainfall and moderate snow in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Upper areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, D.I. Khan, Tank, and Kohat districts may experience wet and snowy weather from the night of December 20 to December 22.

Rainfall with moderate to heavy snow is also expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from the night of December 20 to the morning of December 23. In the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, along with the Potohar region, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Noorpurthal, and Layyah, rain is likely from December 20 to 21. Murree and Galliyat may see both rain and snowfall during the same period.

Cloudy conditions with light drizzle are forecast for Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Multan, Jhang, D.G. Khan, and Toba Tek Singh on December 20 and 21. Sindh will remain partly cloudy to cloudy on December 19 and 20.

The Met Office forecast cautions that snowfall may cause road closures or slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from December 20 to 22. Landslides or avalanches are possible in hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Smog and fog may persist in central and southern Punjab and upper Sindh.
