Pakistan will celebrate Eidul Azha on May 27 after the Zilhaj moon was sighted in different parts of the country on Sunday. The announcement was made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee following an official moon sighting meeting held in Karachi.
The meeting took place at the Met Office and was chaired by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad. Members of both central and zonal moon sighting committees attended the session. Experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO were also present during the meeting.
After reviewing reports from across the country, the committee confirmed that verified testimonies had been received regarding the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. Based on these reports, the committee officially declared that the first day of Zilhaj will fall on May 18 in Pakistan.
As a result, Eidul Azha will be observed nationwide on Wednesday, May 27. Muslims across the country are now expected to begin preparations for the religious festival, which is marked by special prayers and the ritual of animal sacrifice.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. According to reports from Arab media, Saudi authorities announced that the first day of Zilhaj will begin on May 18. The Day of Arafah, also known as Wuquf-e-Arafah, will be observed on May 26 in the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eidul Azha on May 27 as well. The announcement means Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are expected to observe the festival on the same day this year.
In addition, Indonesia has also officially confirmed the beginning of Zilhaj. Authorities in the Southeast Asian country announced that the moon had been sighted and declared May 27 as the date for Eid celebrations.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed the decision after completing its official moon sighting process. The development shows that several Muslim countries will celebrate Eid on the same day.
