The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (CRHC) is set to meet today in Karachi to sight the Zil Hajj moon and determine the date for Eid-ul-Adha 2026 in Pakistan.
According to reports, the meeting will be chaired by CRHC Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at Habib Bank Plaza in Karachi. Officials will review moon sighting reports received from different parts of the country before making the final announcement.
At the same time, Zonal and District Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also hold separate meetings at their respective headquarters to collect local testimonies related to the moon sighting.
The sighting of the Zil Hajj moon will decide the official date of Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan. If the moon is sighted today, Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27. However, if the crescent is not visible, the religious festival will likely fall on Wednesday, May 28.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted a strong possibility of moon sighting on Sunday based on astronomical calculations.
According to SUPARCO, the moon for Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH was born at 1:01 am on May 17. By sunset, the moon’s age is expected to reach nearly 18 hours and 30 minutes, which experts consider suitable for visibility.
The space agency also stated that coastal areas of Pakistan may have better chances of sighting the crescent. The gap between sunset and moonset is expected to remain around 60 minutes in those regions, improving visibility conditions.
SUPARCO added that a moon age close to 20 hours usually increases the possibility of clear sighting with the naked eye. Based on these calculations, the agency believes Pakistan is likely to complete 29 days of Dhul Qadah this year.
Despite the astronomical predictions, the final decision regarding Eid-ul-Adha will only be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing official evidence and testimonies from across the country.
