ISLAMABAD โ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Pakistan has expressed willingness to join the proposed International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza. However, no formal commitment on troop deployment has yet been made.
During a press conference on Friday, Marco Rubio stated that Islamabad is one of several countries engaged in discussions for the US-backed initiative aimed at post-war peacebuilding in Gaza. The ISF is designed to support governance, demilitarisation, and reconstruction after recent conflicts.
Last week, Pakistan participated in a high-level conference in Qatar hosted by US Central Command. Nearly 45 countries attended to discuss the ISFโs command structure, mandate, and other operational details. Diplomatic sources said Pakistan is considering deploying around 3,500 troops, though talks remain exploratory.
When asked whether the US had secured Pakistanโs approval to send forces to Gaza, Marco Rubio expressed gratitude for Pakistanโs willingness to consider participation. He noted that several key issues, including funding, mandate, and rules of engagement, still need resolution before formal commitments.
โI feel very confident that we have a number of nation-states acceptable to all sides willing to step forward,โ Rubio said. โCertainly Pakistan is key if they agree to do so.โ He added that discussions also focused on the forceโs role, command authority, and financial responsibilities. Plans include establishing a โBoard of Peaceโ and a Palestinian technocratic group to manage daily governance in Gaza.
Pakistanโs Foreign Office, however, emphasized caution. Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Islamabad has not yet decided on troop contributions and that consultations are ongoing.
The US State Department has reportedly approached over 70 countries for troops, funding, or logistical support. At least 19 nations have indicated willingness to assist. Officials said international deployment could begin as early as next month.
The Gaza Strip has suffered extensive destruction following more than two years of conflict. A ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas was signed in October after US President Donald Trump proposed a 20-point peace plan in September.

The comments by Marco Rubio underscore Pakistanโs potential role in stabilising Gaza while highlighting ongoing international efforts to ensure peace and reconstruction in the region.
