The PMD has predicted widespread rain and thunderstorms in Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the next two days. The weather department has also warned that heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of both cities.
In its latest weather advisory, the PMD urged residents to stay alert as the incoming weather system is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. Authorities have also been advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of weather-related incidents.
According to the department, moist air currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously affecting the upper parts of Pakistan. In addition, moisture-rich winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to reach the northeastern regions starting Tuesday evening.
The weather system will also be strengthened by a westerly wave moving across the upper parts of the country. This combination is expected to increase rainfall activity in several regions over the coming days.
Besides Islamabad and Rawalpindi, many cities across Punjab are also likely to receive rain with windstorms and thunderstorms. These include Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Kasur. Nearby districts may also experience similar weather conditions.
The PMD warned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures and outdoor installations. Solar panels, electricity poles, billboards, and other exposed infrastructure may be at risk during severe weather.
The department advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Driving on flooded roads should also be avoided to reduce the risk of accidents. Residents living in low-lying areas are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and follow official safety instructions.
The weather advisory also called on local authorities to remain prepared for possible emergencies. Officials have been urged to ensure proper drainage systems and take preventive measures to minimize the impact of urban flooding.
The rain-bearing system is expected to bring relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather. Temperatures are likely to decrease as the rainfall spreads across the affected regions.
Pakistan is currently experiencing the monsoon season, which often brings heavy rain and thunderstorms to different parts of the country. During this period, weather conditions can change quickly, making regular updates from the PMD important for public safety.
