Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Sunday said the city has endured tough times and promised that authorities will not let it return to dark days. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to improve security and public services.
Speaking at a press briefing, the mayor mentioned a recent meeting between representatives of ABAD and the Sindh Chief Minister. He said key issues, including security and civic matters, will be resolved through coordinated action.
Mayor Wahab highlighted a large plot of KMC land in Shireen Jinnah Colony that had been encroached upon. He stated the land is intended for a parking stand for trailers. โWhen we launch an operation, people interfere,โ he said, adding that political party leaders often seek stay orders to halt enforcement, delaying progress.
The mayor also inaugurated Shireen Jinnah Park in UC-12, which was previously encroached by land grabbers. He announced the formation of a committee to manage the park, noting it is a unique recreational facility in the area. He stressed that reclaiming public spaces is part of his commitment to prevent Karachi from returning to dark days.
In addition, Mayor Wahab confirmed that the RO water plant in the area has been restored and is now supplying 1.5 lakh gallons of clean water daily. This step aims to improve essential services and enhance residentsโ quality of life.
The mayor reiterated that Karachi will continue to see development projects and law enforcement actions to secure the city. โWe have faced dark days before, but we are committed to progress and safety,โ he said. Citizens are encouraged to support the initiatives to maintain peace and order.
Authorities assured that the combined efforts of municipal bodies and government departments will prevent any regression into the dark days Karachi experienced in the past.
