Power was restored for about 95,000 customers in San Francisco following a major outage on Saturday, city officials and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) confirmed.
The blackout affected roughly 130,000 residents in the California city, which has a population of around 800,000. PG&E reported that crews worked through the evening to restore electricity safely, and no injuries were reported among workers or the public.
“Crews restored about 95,000 customers by 11 p.m. Saturday, and approximately 35,000 remain without electric service,” PG&E said in a statement.
The outage caused traffic disruptions and forced several businesses in San Francisco to close temporarily. City officials advised residents to limit travel, treat downed traffic signals as four-way stops, and only call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies.
Earlier in the day, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management posted guidance on social media, urging people to keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed and to turn off major appliances to prevent electrical surges.
PG&E crews worked quickly to restore service across the city. Many residents expressed relief as power returned late Saturday evening, while crews continued to address remaining outages in certain neighborhoods.
City authorities and utility officials reminded residents that large-scale outages could occur during peak energy use or technical failures, and they encouraged households to prepare emergency kits and backup plans.
