KARACHI – The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on December 27 to mark the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
According to an official notification from the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department, all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils in Sindh will remain closed on this day.
The public holiday ensures that government employees and citizens can participate in memorial events and pay tribute to Benazir Bhutto’s contributions to the country. Authorities have encouraged people to observe the day respectfully.
This announcement follows another public holiday earlier in the week. On December 25, Sindh observed Christmas, which also coincides with the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Government offices across the province remained closed to honor Pakistan’s founding father.
Officials stated that the decision to declare December 27 as a public holiday is part of the province’s ongoing efforts to commemorate important national figures. Schools, colleges, and other public institutions are expected to remain closed alongside government offices.
Benazir Bhutto, the first female Prime Minister of Pakistan, is remembered for her political leadership and efforts to promote democracy. Her death anniversary is observed nationwide with various ceremonies, including tributes, prayers, and cultural programs.
Local authorities have also advised residents to follow traffic rules and cooperate with security personnel during public gatherings and memorial events. Public transport may experience adjustments due to closures and ceremonies.
The Sindh government’s declaration of a public holiday allows citizens to participate in these commemorative events and reflect on the legacy of Benazir Bhutto. The notification underscores the province’s commitment to honoring its historical and political leaders.
