The Capital Development Authority has announced plans to improve access and traffic control at the new Blue Area Food Street in Islamabad. The authority aims to make the area more comfortable for visitors. As part of the initiative, CDA Plans Electric Carts and valet parking services to support pedestrians.
According to CDA officials, the food street is being developed as a car-free zone. Regular vehicle movement will be restricted inside the area. Four electric carts will operate within the food street. These carts will mainly help elderly people and children. Officials said the carts will make movement easier along the pedestrian stretch.
The valet parking service will operate along Jinnah Avenue. It will help manage vehicle flow and reduce roadside parking. Authorities believe this step will ease congestion in one of Islamabad’s busiest commercial zones. Officials said CDA Plans Electric Carts to improve safety and convenience for families visiting the food street.
The project is part of a larger redevelopment plan with a total cost of Rs. 240 million. It covers an 800-foot section of Jinnah Avenue. The area is being transformed into a pedestrian-friendly public space. The focus is on walking, dining, and recreation. Private vehicles will not be allowed to pass through the main food street area.
CDA officials said the food street will offer a modern urban experience. The design includes walking tracks and open seating areas. Digital entertainment features will also be added. The authority said the project is inspired by Istanbul’s Istiklal Street and Lahore’s Nizami Street. Around 18 to 20 kiosks will be set up. These kiosks will serve a variety of local food items.
To address parking needs, a new parking plaza has already been completed. It can accommodate around 1,000 vehicles. The plaza is expected to open soon. Additional parking areas are also planned along Fazal-e-Haq Road. These spaces will serve traders and visitors.
CDA also confirmed that a third-party operator will manage the food street. The operator will work under CDA supervision. Responsibilities will include running electric carts and valet services. The operator will also handle stall auctions and facility management. Officials added that CDA Plans Electric Carts as part of long-term urban improvements.
