Govt Likely to Delay Budget 2026-27 Amid Ongoing Consultations

The federal government is likely to present the Budget 2026-27 on June 12 instead of June 10. The change comes as consultations on key financial matters are still ongoing. Officials say several decisions are yet to be finalized.

Sources said the schedule adjustment is under review due to incomplete discussions. The government is trying to align the timeline with ongoing policy meetings. The Budget 2026-27 preparation process is still in its final stages.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal confirmed that important budget points are still being discussed. He said the government is working under tight deadlines. He also noted that the upcoming month of Muharram is being considered in planning the schedule.

According to him, a final decision on the presentation date will be made soon. The government aims to ensure all stakeholders are consulted properly before final approval of the Budget 2026-27 date.

Sources further revealed that talks between coalition partners have been completed. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reached an understanding on development spending. This includes agreements on the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

The federal government is planning to increase development funds for smaller provinces. Officials say this approach is part of balanced regional development in the Budget 2026-27.

Under the proposed plan, Balochistan is expected to receive the largest share of development funds. Sindh will come next in allocation. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is likely to rank third. Punjab is expected to receive the lowest share.

Officials say these allocations aim to reduce regional inequality. The Budget 2026-27 will focus on infrastructure growth, development projects, and economic stability.

Sources added that final figures are still under review. Adjustments may be made before the budget is presented in parliament. The government is working to finalize all agreements in the coming days.
