The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has presented two major proposals ahead of the federal budget for 2026-27. The party has called for a significant increase in government employees’ salaries and Pensions to help people cope with rising inflation.
According to sources, the PPP has proposed a 50 percent increase in salaries and Pensions for government workers. Party leaders believe the adjustment is necessary due to the increasing cost of living and continued inflationary pressures affecting households across the country.
The party has also recommended increasing the minimum monthly wage to Rs60,000. PPP officials argue that workers and retirees require greater financial support as essential expenses continue to rise.
Sources within the party said that salary and Pensions adjustments should reflect current economic conditions. They stressed that public sector employees and pensioners should receive relief that matches inflation and helps protect their purchasing power.
However, reports suggest that the federal government is hesitant to accept the PPP’s proposals. Officials are reportedly concerned about the financial impact such increases could have on the national budget.
The PPP has also opposed the introduction of new taxes and levies in the upcoming budget. Party leaders believe that citizens are already facing a heavy tax burden and should not be subjected to additional financial pressure.
According to party sources, the government should focus on identifying new sources of revenue instead of increasing taxes. They argue that improved revenue collection and economic reforms could generate additional funds without placing extra burdens on the public.
The proposals come amid ongoing discussions between the ruling coalition and the PPP regarding the upcoming federal budget. Differences between both sides have reportedly led to a deadlock over several budget-related issues.
PPP sources claim that the government has not fully implemented previous agreements related to budget consultations. They allege that the party repeatedly requested detailed budget information but has not yet received complete details regarding proposed taxes and development spending.
According to PPP representatives, the government was expected to share information about both existing and proposed taxes before finalizing the budget. They argue that greater transparency is necessary for meaningful consultation.

Senior leaders from the government and the PPP are expected to hold discussions to resolve their differences before the presentation of the federal budget. The outcome of these talks could play an important role in shaping salary increases, Pensions, taxation policies, and other key budget measures for the next fiscal year.
