The Sindh government has announced plans to strengthen its public transport system by introducing 50 double-decker buses and 500 Electric Buses across the province. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize public transportation and provide residents with safer, more comfortable, and environmentally friendly travel options.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed ongoing transport projects, future infrastructure plans, and land requirements for expanding the province’s public transport network.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, deputy commissioners from different districts, and senior officials from several government departments.
Officials presented updates on existing transport projects and discussed future expansion plans. The meeting also focused on identifying suitable locations for bus depots, parking facilities, and other infrastructure required to support the growing transport fleet.
According to the Sindh government, the addition of Electric Buses will play a major role in improving daily travel for thousands of commuters. These buses are expected to offer cleaner transportation while reducing fuel consumption and lowering environmental pollution across urban areas.
The planned fleet of double-decker buses is also expected to increase passenger capacity on busy routes. The larger buses can accommodate more commuters, helping reduce congestion and improve the overall efficiency of the public transport system.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the introduction of 50 double-decker buses and 500 Electric Buses represents an important step toward building a modern transportation network for Sindh. He added that the government remains committed to improving travel facilities for citizens throughout the province.
During the meeting, the senior minister instructed deputy commissioners to identify vacant government land in their respective districts. These locations will be used to establish bus depots and operational facilities needed for future mass transit projects.
Officials also reviewed available government land, proposed depot locations, and long-term infrastructure requirements to ensure the smooth operation of the expanding transport network.
The government believes that developing proper depot facilities will support maintenance, parking, and daily operations of the new buses. This planning is considered essential before the larger fleet becomes operational.
The expansion of Electric Buses also reflects Sindh’s growing focus on sustainable transportation. Electric-powered public transport can help reduce vehicle emissions, improve air quality, and support cleaner urban development while lowering operating costs over time.
Residents are also expected to benefit from more comfortable buses equipped with modern facilities. Improved public transport may encourage more people to use buses instead of private vehicles, reducing traffic congestion on busy roads.
The Sindh government has emphasized that the project forms part of its long-term vision to modernize transportation across the province. Authorities are working to complete the necessary preparations so the new buses can begin serving passengers as soon as possible.
