CSS Registrations Drop Nearly 48% Between 2022 and 2025

The number of CSS Registrations in Pakistan has fallen sharply over the past four years, according to official data released by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). The figures show a significant decline in both registrations and the number of candidates appearing for the Central Superior Services (CSS) examination.

The data reveals that CSS Registrations dropped from 35,059 in 2022 to 18,139 in 2025. This marks a decrease of nearly 48 percent during the period.

The number of candidates who appeared in the CSS examination also declined. In 2022, around 20,262 candidates took the exam. By 2025, that number had fallen to 12,792.

The FPSC also nominated fewer successful candidates during the same period. The number of nominated candidates decreased from 239 in 2022 to 170 in 2025.

Despite the decline in applications, competition for CSS jobs remained very strong. In 2025, only 0.94 percent of registered CSS candidates received nominations. Among those who appeared in the examination, only 1.33 percent were nominated.

In comparison, 0.68 percent of registered candidates and 1.18 percent of candidates who appeared were nominated in 2022. These figures show that the selection process remains highly competitive, even with fewer applicants.

The decline was not limited to the CSS examination. FPSC data also showed fewer people applying for federal government jobs through its general recruitment process.

General recruitment registrations reached a high of 436,757 in 2023. However, the number dropped to 196,193 in 2025. This represents a decline of more than 55 percent in just two years.

The number of candidates appearing in recruitment examinations also fell during this period. It decreased from 199,234 in 2023 to 80,633 in 2025.

Even with fewer applications, the number of selected candidates remained limited. In 2025, the FPSC nominated 3,005 candidates from 196,193 registered applicants. In comparison, only 1,436 candidates were nominated from more than 436,000 registrations in 2023.

The official data also highlighted a difference between registrations and actual participation. Around 45 percent of registered CSS candidates appeared in the examination in 2023. By 2025, this participation rate increased to about 71 percent.

A similar trend was seen in the general recruitment process. The appearance rate increased from about 32 percent in 2022 to 41 percent in 2025. However, most registered applicants still did not appear in the examinations.

The latest FPSC figures suggest that while CSS Registrations and applications for federal jobs have declined, competition for available positions continues to remain intense.
