KARACHI โ The beginning of 2026 became a painful experience for many Karachi residents. Reckless New Year celebrations led to widespread aerial firing incidents across the city. More than 25 people were injured due to this dangerous and illegal practice.
Hospitals and rescue officials confirmed that victims included children, women, and elderly citizens. Most injuries were caused by stray bullets fired into the air during midnight celebrations. Medical staff described the situation as alarming and preventable.
Several injured people were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Others were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Doctors said some victims were in stable condition, while others required close monitoring.
Among the injured were two young girls. Eight-year-old Fareeha was injured near Safora. Eleven-year-old Mah Jabeen was hit in Korangiโs Area Market. Both were rushed to hospitals for immediate treatment.
Other victims included 18-year-old Wajiha from Mahmoodabad and 40-year-old Aleena from Qayyumabadโs D Area. A 55-year-old woman, Shameem Umar, was injured in Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33. These incidents caused fear in residential neighborhoods.
More cases were reported from different parts of the city. Injured individuals included 53-year-old Meraj Bano in Lines Area and 24-year-old Ajwa near Chandni Chowk. Thirty-five-year-old Drees Shafiq was injured in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 2.
Additional victims were reported from Pak Colony, Azam Basti, Johar Mor, and Liaquatabad. Injuries also occurred in Lyari, Korangi, Mauripur, and Manzoor Colony. Victims ranged from teenagers to senior citizens.
Authorities said these injuries were the direct result of aerial firing during celebrations. Officials reminded the public that bullets fired upward return to the ground with deadly force. Innocent people often become unintended targets.

Karachi police had issued clear warnings before New Yearโs Eve. They announced arrests for anyone involved in celebratory gunfire. Despite this, incidents continued across several districts.
Police had also deployed drones to monitor sensitive areas in real time. Patrols were increased to ensure public safety. Officials said action will be taken against those responsible.
