Disabled Beggar in Indore Found to Be Millionaire During Anti-Begging Drive

A surprising case has emerged from Indore, India, during a government campaign against begging. A disabled Beggar sitting quietly in a busy market was found to own assets worth millions. The discovery has shocked officials and local residents alike.

The man was identified as Mangi Lal. He appeared to live a very simple life. He did not call out to people or ask directly for money. Passersby would give him alms on their own.

According to Indian media reports, Mangi Lal sat daily on an iron cart in a crowded market area. On normal days, he collected around 400 to 500 Indian rupees. His lifestyle gave no sign of wealth. This made the discovery even more unexpected.

The truth surfaced during an official anti-begging operation. Authorities began checking financial records of people involved in street begging. During this process, officials reviewed Mangi Lalโ€™s income sources and assets.

The investigation revealed that begging was not his main income. The Beggar used the money he received to lend to local market traders. He charged interest for short periods, including daily and weekly loans. This activity brought him steady profits.

Officials said this lending business was his primary source of earnings. Over time, the profits helped him build significant wealth. Investigators found that Mangi Lal owned three private houses. He also owned three auto-rickshaws and one car.

The auto-rickshaws were rented out regularly. He also employed a permanent driver for his car. Due to his disability, he had been allotted a government housing unit as well.

Authorities were surprised by the scale of assets owned by a street Beggar. The total value of his properties and vehicles ran into millions of rupees. Officials said the case highlighted misuse of public sympathy.

After the findings, Mangi Lal was shifted to a government shelter house. His case was documented as a key example under the anti-begging policy. Officials stated that such cases harm genuine people in need.
