The security of several senior leaders of MQM Pakistan has been withdrawn, creating concern inside the party. The move has affected both federal ministers and provincial assembly members. Party officials say the decision was taken without prior notice.
Sources said the situation developed during rising political tension with the Sindh govt. The tension increased after MQM leaders strongly criticized the provincial administration over the Gul Plaza tragedy. The incident has remained a sensitive issue in recent days.
According to party sources, police protection was removed from Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, Anis Kaimkhani, and MQM opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khorshidi. These leaders earlier had dedicated police guards and mobile units.
The sudden withdrawal has raised serious safety concerns. MQM officials said no formal explanation was given by authorities. They believe such actions should not be taken without clear reasons.
Party insiders link the move to MQMโs public criticism of the Sindh govt. They say the party has demanded accountability after the Gul Plaza tragedy. MQM leaders argue that public issues must be discussed openly.
The party has also stated that it will continue to raise questions. They say political pressure will not silence them. Leaders feel that the matter reflects growing tension between the opposition and the provincial administration.
In response, MQM spokesperson Mushtaq Ayaz issued a statement. He said federal security is still being provided to Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal. He added that this protection comes from federal authorities.
However, Ayaz explained that other leaders have limited security. This includes Farooq Sattar and Anis Kaimkhani. Their protection is managed by Sindh Police and can be adjusted anytime.
Ayaz said this type of security is often granted or withdrawn by the Sindh govt. He described it as nominal and not permanent. He stressed that the party expects fair treatment.
He also dismissed reports about a planned press conference. Ayaz confirmed that no media briefing is scheduled at 4 pm. Instead, an internal MQM meeting will be held.
The meeting will focus on internal party matters. It will not involve public statements. Party leaders want to review the situation carefully.
Political observers say such steps can increase political uncertainty. They warn that removing security from key figures may raise risks. It may also damage trust between political parties and the administration.

For now, MQM leaders remain cautious. They continue their work while staying concerned about safety. The party has not announced any protest yet. However, the issue is likely to remain in political discussions.
