In Karachi, a school van caught fire while transporting children home, causing panic among passengers and nearby residents.
The incident occurred in the morning near Kuba Mosque in the Nazimabad area. Witnesses said the van suddenly catches fire, possibly due to overheating or a short circuit. Smoke quickly filled the vehicle, alarming both children and staff.
Local residents rushed to the scene and helped evacuate all the children safely. Rescue teams confirmed that no major injuries occurred, although several children suffered from smoke inhalation. They were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to SSP Korangi, all children are safe. He added that the injuries were minor and mainly caused by panic and the stampede when the van caught fire. Authorities emphasized that quick action by the community prevented a more serious tragedy.
This is not the first school van incident in Karachi. Earlier this week, another van carrying six children caught fire, also in the Nazimabad area. Three of those injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, while the remaining three received treatment at Civil Hospital Karachi. Eyewitnesses again praised nearby residents for helping extinguish the flames and preventing further damage.
Officials are investigating both incidents to determine the exact cause. Preliminary reports suggest electrical faults or overheating may have triggered the van to catch fire. Authorities have advised school transport operators to regularly inspect vehicles and ensure safety equipment is functional.
The Karachi Fire Department has urged drivers to remain vigilant and keep fire extinguishers onboard. The department said immediate response is critical whenever a vehicle catches fire to avoid casualties.
Residents and parents have called for stricter safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, children are recovering well in hospitals, and authorities continue to monitor their condition closely.
