Rawalpindi: Pakistan and Azerbaijanโs Naval Chiefs met to discuss strengthening defence and maritime cooperation, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Commander of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Shahin Mammadov, called on Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. Upon arrival, a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Navy presented a guard of honour. The visiting dignitary also laid a floral wreath at the Shuhadaโs Monument.
During the meeting, the Naval Chiefs discussed regional maritime security, mutual interests, and opportunities for enhanced cooperation in training and defence. Both leaders pledged to diversify and strengthen their bilateral naval relationship.
A briefing was provided to the visiting Commander on Pakistan Navyโs ongoing projects and initiatives. Officials highlighted the importance of joint exercises, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building programs to further enhance maritime capabilities.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share longstanding brotherly relations, with close ties between their navies. The visit of the Azerbaijan Naval Forces Commander is expected to deepen collaboration, particularly in areas of operational coordination and defence technology.
ISPR stated that the discussions between the Naval Chiefs reaffirm the commitment of both countries to maintain strong maritime security and regional stability. The leaders emphasized continuous engagement to address emerging challenges and explore new avenues for naval cooperation.
Officials noted that such high-level visits promote trust, transparency, and mutual understanding. They also provide an opportunity to review ongoing defence projects and plan future joint initiatives.
