Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has emphasized the government’s commitment to using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency, transparency, and revenue administration in Pakistan.
Speaking at the National Artificial Intelligence Workshop during a panel discussion titled “AI for Public Service Transformation and SDG Acceleration”, FM Aurangzeb stressed that AI solutions must deliver measurable benefits rather than being adopted for technology’s sake.
FM Aurangzeb noted that AI-enabled systems are playing a crucial role in strengthening compliance, enforcement, and decision-making across government departments. He highlighted that Pakistan’s ongoing tax reforms are leveraging AI-led CRM systems, production monitoring tools, risk-based compliance measures, and faceless customer processes. These initiatives aim to enhance transparency, reduce leakages, and improve revenue outcomes.
The Finance Minister said that reducing discretionary human intervention through technology is central to curbing inefficiencies and corruption. He added that AI-driven systems have already generated tangible fiscal gains that would have been difficult to achieve with traditional manual processes.
FM Aurangzeb also highlighted the government’s approach to emerging digital assets, mentioning the Pakistan Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority. He explained that regulating digital assets is essential to safeguard financial stability and integrate new technologies into the formal economy.
Addressing the broader digital economy, FM Aurangzeb stressed the importance of investing in human capital and skills development. He noted that equipping Pakistan’s youth with advanced technological skills will allow them to participate in higher-value segments of the global digital ecosystem.
