Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the Digital Traffic E-Challan system called “One App”. The app is designed to improve transparency and enforce traffic laws across the province.
The One App allows authorities to store video recordings of traffic violations securely. These recordings are verifiable, making it easier to hold offenders accountable. Officers can instantly verify identity cards, driving licenses, and check for stolen vehicles on the spot.
In addition, the app enables real-time verification of vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits. Digital actions against encroachments and environmental violations can also be taken through the app.
As part of its integrated system, the One App connects e-challan checks with FIR status and criminal records. This helps strengthen law enforcement and ensures accountability across all traffic-related matters.
Punjab has implemented major traffic reforms for the first time in 60 years. A meeting presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore approved 20 amendments to the decades-old Traffic Act. These reforms aim to make travel safer and more convenient for commuters.
Under the new rules, vehicles with repeated traffic violations may be auctioned. Government vehicles will face strict penalties if they break traffic laws. A 30-day grace period was also introduced to reduce wrong-way driving. Additionally, U-turns will be redesigned to improve road safety and organization.
The reforms also include prompt compensation (diyat) for families of those who lose their lives in accidents. Officials say the One App will play a key role in implementing these reforms effectively and improving overall road safety.
Experts believe the One App will help modernize traffic enforcement in Punjab. With digital records and instant verification, authorities can respond faster to violations and maintain safer roads for all.
