Gaza Ceasefire Helped Halt ‘Genocide,’ Says Hamas Spokesperson

A Hamas spokesperson has praised Pakistan’s support for Palestinians while expressing serious concerns over ongoing violence in Gaza. Dr. Khalid Qadomi, in charge of West Asia for Hamas, spoke to journalists at the Karachi Press Club on Friday.

Dr. Qadomi said a ceasefire had temporarily halted what he called a campaign of genocide in Gaza. However, he warned that the mechanisms under the truce remain unclear. Bodies like the proposed Gaza Peace Board have not yet defined how they will operate.

The spokesperson claimed that Israel continues to violate the ceasefire, resulting in daily civilian casualties. He urged Islamic countries involved in the Gaza Peace Board to address these violations immediately.

Citing a recent United Nations report, Dr. Qadomi raised alarms over the use of U.S. weapons in Gaza. He said the bombs produced heat of up to 3,500 degrees Celsius, dissolving the bodies of thousands of Palestinians. He added that Hamas initially estimated around 72,000 martyrs, but the UN report suggests the number could rise to 200,000.

Dr. Qadomi also highlighted the severe shortage of humanitarian aid entering Gaza. While the ceasefire agreement allowed for 600 aid trucks per day, Israel is reportedly permitting only around 50. Basic necessities like milk for children, drinking water, medicine, and surgical equipment are in short supply. Hospitals urgently need rehabilitation.

The Hamas spokesperson questioned the effectiveness of international oversight and said pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been insufficient. He stressed that without strong intervention, the genocide of civilians could continue.

He welcomed the idea of a Palestinian technocratic committee to manage reconstruction and prepare for elections in Gaza. However, he said Israel is obstructing its entry into the region.

Despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis, Dr. Qadomi said displaced Palestinians are beginning to return. He emphasized that they will not abandon their homeland, calling for stronger international action to prevent further genocide in Gaza.

The remarks underline the growing concerns over civilian safety, aid shortages, and the urgent need for accountability amid the continued conflict.
