The Government of Pakistan has fixed the Nisab for Zakat deduction at Rs503,529 for the year 2026. The announcement comes ahead of Ramadan 2026.
According to an official notification, Zakat deduction will apply to savings accounts, profit and loss-sharing accounts, and similar deposit accounts. If the account balance equals or exceeds Rs503,529 on the first day of Ramadan, Zakat will be deducted.
Current accounts will remain exempt from Zakat deduction. The notification has been circulated to all banks and financial institutions across the country.
The Zakat deduction process will take place on either February 19 or 20, 2026. The exact date depends on the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon. Ramadan is expected to begin on February 19, 2026.
Officials clarified that accounts with balances below the Nisab threshold on the first day of Ramadan will not face Zakat deduction. This measure ensures that only eligible account holders contribute according to Islamic guidelines.
The Nisab represents the minimum amount of wealth required for Zakat to become obligatory. Each year, the government announces the updated Nisab before Ramadan. This step helps banks prepare for the deduction process in a timely manner.
Authorities said the collected Zakat funds will be used to support underprivileged communities. The system aims to ensure fair distribution of financial assistance to those in need.
All banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealings on the first working day of Ramadan. This closure is necessary to complete the Zakat deduction process smoothly.
The government urged account holders to review their balances before Ramadan begins. Customers seeking exemption can submit the required declaration forms to their banks in advance.
The announcement of the Nisab for Zakat deduction marks an important administrative step as the country prepares for the holy month. Authorities have assured that the process will be carried out transparently and in accordance with established regulations.
