Police have shared initial findings regarding the death of 22-year-old student Fariha, who fell from the third floor of Fatima Jinnah Medical College in Lahore on Tuesday.
According to authorities, Fariha allegedly jumped from the hostel rooftop. She sustained severe head injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital but died due to excessive blood loss. Medical officials confirmed that her death was caused by critical head trauma.
The initial findings indicate that Fariha had reportedly been struggling with severe depression for the past six months. She was a final-year student, with one examination already completed and another scheduled for 19 February. Police noted that she had been preparing for the upcoming exam.
A medical board has been formed to further examine the circumstances of the incident. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence to determine all contributing factors. Fariha, originally from Kashmir, was living in Lahore with her father.
Authorities emphasized that these are initial findings and further investigation may provide additional details. Police are coordinating with the college administration and medical staff as part of the inquiry.
The tragic case echoes a similar incident last month in Narowal district, where a female student attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of a private college. She was critically injured and transferred to Lahore’s General Hospital. Doctors confirmed a frontal skull fracture, and police noted domestic issues as the apparent reason in their initial findings.
Mental health experts stress the importance of providing support to students facing depression, especially during examination periods. Colleges are being urged to implement counseling and mental health programs to prevent such tragedies.
The investigation at Fatima Jinnah Medical College continues, and authorities have promised a detailed report once all evidence is reviewed. Meanwhile, police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to help complete the inquiry.
