Former Pakistan cricket captain and selection committee member Mohammad Yousuf has revealed that he resigned from his role due to disagreements over star batsman Babar Azam.
Yousuf said he recommended giving Babar a break to help him regain form. However, his suggestion faced strong opposition from within the cricketing community. After repeated resistance, Yousuf stated, “I will resign, you do whatever you want.”
He further explained that his resignation was initially rejected, but he submitted it a third time before it was finally accepted.
Speaking about Babar Azam, Yousuf criticized his recent performances. “His batting technique has failed, and he has not been in form over the last three years,” he said. Yousuf suggested that Babar should spend time in the cricket academy to work on his game before returning to the national team.
Yousuf also reflected on the national team’s overall situation. He believes the era of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shadab Khan is over and emphasized the need for fresh talent. “Relying on small victories against weaker teams is not enough. Pakistan requires new performers to compete at the highest level,” he added.
The former captain’s remarks have sparked debates across cricket forums and social media. Analysts and fans discussed Yousuf’s decision to resign and his recommendations regarding Babar Azam’s future in the team.
This is not the first time Yousuf has spoken candidly about Pakistan cricket. He has frequently highlighted issues with senior players’ form and stressed the importance of strengthening the squad with emerging talent.
With Yousuf’s resignation and critiques, the Pakistan Cricket Board may now face additional pressure to evaluate player performance and management decisions, especially concerning star players like Babar Azam.
