Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has urged the national cricket team to stop shifting blame following their disappointing campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He emphasized that players must take responsibility for their own performances instead of pointing fingers at coaches or the system.
The Men in Green faced a heavy 61-run defeat against India in Colombo, marking their biggest loss to India in T20 World Cup history. Imad highlighted that inexperience is not the issue, as most squad members have played over 100 T20 matches.
โIf, despite being experienced and having played over 100 T20 matches, we are still unable to win an ICC event, then the problem lies within us as players,โ he said, urging players to stop shifting blame onto management or coaching staff.
He recounted his own career experience, including his comeback alongside Mohammad Amir. Imad said their shared goal was to win the World Cup, but despite years of playing T20 leagues globally, results did not meet expectations.
Reflecting on the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match against India, Imad shared how he faced criticism after scoring 15 off 23 balls. โThe next day, I accepted my responsibility. I stood in the dressing room and admitted I had messed up,โ he said. He stressed that acknowledging mistakes is a sign of strength and allows for self-analysis and improvement.
Imad urged current players to adopt the same approach, focusing on accountability rather than excuses. โWe must accept the reality that we were not good enough against India. We bowled badly and batted poorly. Then we must vow to rectify those mistakes,โ he added.
The veteran all-rounderโs message comes as Pakistan cricket continues to seek consistency in international competitions. Analysts and fans alike have echoed Imadโs call for players to stop shifting blame, highlighting that team success depends on individual responsibility and collective effort.
By taking accountability, Imad believes the squad can learn from failures, improve performance, and rebuild confidence ahead of future ICC events. He concluded that honesty, self-reflection, and responsibility are key to turning setbacks into opportunities for growth.
