PTA Takes Strict Action Against Telecom Violations

The PTA has issued a strong warning to telecom operators over illegal deductions and unauthorized charges. The authority said strict action will be taken against companies that violate tariff rules.

Officials confirmed that telecom firms must get prior approval before changing mobile rates. Any price adjustment without permission will be treated as a violation.

The PTA emphasized that transparency is mandatory in billing and service practices. It also stated that clear customer consent is required for all Value-Added Services (VAS).

Operators have been instructed to improve their charging systems. Failure to follow regulations may result in heavy penalties.

The regulator said it will closely monitor telecom companies to ensure compliance. It also urged operators to invest more in spectrum and infrastructure.

Better investment is expected to improve mobile service quality across the country. Customers who face issues can contact the PTA helpline for complaint resolution.

The authority has also introduced a new facility regarding toll-free numbers. Calls to toll-free numbers starting with 0800 will now be free for mobile users. Earlier, mobile users were charged standard rates for dialing these numbers.

After review and consultation with stakeholders, the policy was updated. Key parties involved in discussions included PTCL, NTC, local loop operators, and cellular companies.

It was agreed that toll-free calls to local loop numbers should not carry charges. This change ensures equal access to telecom services for all users.

The PTA stated that the decision reflects its commitment to consumer protection. Officials said the move strengthens fairness and transparency in the telecom sector.
