The International Cricket Council (ICC) has updated the semi-final schedule for the T20 World Cup 2026, currently being held in India and Sri Lanka. The changes affect venues depending on which teams qualify.
According to the revised arrangement, if Sri Lanka makes it to the semi-finals, the first semi-final will be held in Colombo. Similarly, if Pakistan qualifies, their match will also be staged in Colombo.
However, if neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka reaches the semi-finals, the first semi-final, scheduled for March 4, will take place in Kolkata. The ICC also clarified that in the event of a PakistanโIndia semi-final clash, the match will be played in Colombo.
The updated semi-final schedule ensures flexibility in venue selection while considering team qualifications and local arrangements. Officials said the revision aims to optimize logistics and accommodate fan attendance.
Currently, in the Super Eight stage, teams are performing as follows:
Group 1:
- West Indies: 2 points, +5.350 NRR
- South Africa: 2 points, +3.800 NRR
- India: 0 points, -3.800 NRR
- Zimbabwe: 0 points, -5.350 NRR
Group 2:
- England: 2 points, +2.550 NRR
- Pakistan: 1 point
- New Zealand: 1 point
- Sri Lanka: 0 points, -2.550 NRR
As teams compete in the remaining Super Eight matches, fans are eagerly watching the points table to predict the semi-final line-up. Analysts note that every match result will be crucial in determining the first semi-final participants.
The ICC emphasized that the semi-final schedule could change further if unexpected results occur in the final Super Eight matches. This approach allows the tournament to remain fair and ensures high-quality cricket in the knockout stages.
Teams and fans are now preparing for the decisive games, with Colombo and Kolkata being key venues for the much-anticipated semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026.
