School Closures Extended for 8 Days Amid Ongoing Concerns

Government of Balochistan has announced an extension in the closure of all School institutions across the province. The decision applies to both public and private schools and will remain in effect until March 31, 2026.

According to an official notification issued by the School Education Department Balochistan, the move has been taken due to the current situation in the region. Authorities stated that conditions are being closely monitored before any further decisions are made.

The notification clearly mentions that all School campuses and educational institutions will stay closed until the end of the month. However, some important academic activities will continue. These include enrollment campaigns, digital census processes, and scheduled examinations.

Balochistan Chief Minister’s spokesperson, Shahid Rind, confirmed that the decision was taken in line with national-level measures. He said the provincial government is reviewing developments regularly. Future decisions will depend on improvements in the situation.

He also advised parents to ensure that children remain engaged in learning activities during the break. Educational continuity is important despite the temporary closure of School facilities. Parents have been encouraged to support home-based learning.

The spokesperson assured that the government aims to resume normal academic activities as soon as possible. Officials are working to create a safe environment before reopening institutions.

It is important to note that earlier, the government had already announced School closures until March 23. This decision was made following Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The latest extension adds more days to the existing closure period.

In a related development, the Balochistan Cabinet has approved an austerity package. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The package aims to reduce government spending and manage fuel resources.

Under these measures, ministers and advisers will give up two months’ salaries. Members of the provincial assembly will take a 25 percent salary cut. Senior government officers will also contribute a portion of their income.

However, employees in the health and School education sectors have been exempted from these deductions. The government has taken this step to protect essential services.

Overall, the extension of School closures reflects the government’s cautious approach. Authorities are focusing on safety while ensuring that educational activities continue in alternative ways.
