TEHRAN – The possibility of a Ceasefire between the United States and Iran remains uncertain after conflicting statements from both sides.
Former US President Donald Trump recently said that productive discussions had taken place with Iran. He also announced a temporary pause on possible strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure. The pause is expected to last for five days while diplomatic discussions continue.
However, Iranian officials denied that any direct communication had taken place with the Trump administration. This contradiction has raised doubts about whether real negotiations are happening.
Some analysts believe the comments about talks may have been intended to calm global markets. Tensions had recently increased due to threats related to the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil route.
Despite the international attention, Iranian leaders have rejected immediate Ceasefire proposals. Officials said the country is acting with what they described as “strategic patience.” They claim Iran currently holds strong leverage in the region.
Iran Presents Conditions for Ceasefire
Iran has outlined several conditions before accepting any Ceasefire agreement. Officials said these demands are necessary to prevent future conflicts.
One key condition is a firm guarantee that hostilities will not restart after a deal. Iranian leaders want binding assurances that attacks will not happen again.
Another demand is the withdrawal of US military bases from nearby Gulf countries. Tehran views the American military presence as a major security concern.
Iran is also seeking financial compensation for damages caused by the conflict. Authorities claim the country suffered significant economic and infrastructure losses.
Wider Regional Demands
Iran’s proposals go beyond a simple Ceasefire. The government is calling for broader changes to regional security arrangements.
One major request involves ending ongoing conflicts across the wider Middle East. Iranian officials argue that regional stability requires stopping multiple military confrontations.
Tehran also wants a new legal framework for the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
In addition, Iranian authorities have demanded legal action against media figures they accuse of acting against the state. They want certain individuals prosecuted or extradited.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue
International mediators are still trying to reduce tensions between the two sides. Behind-the-scenes diplomacy is ongoing, according to regional sources.
However, Iranian officials insist that any Ceasefire must meet their strategic and political conditions. Their statements suggest Tehran is not in a hurry to accept a quick deal.
