The Punjab government extends Section 144 for 30 days, banning public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations. An official notification was issued by the Punjab Home Department.
The notification stated that the restrictions are due to terrorism threats and law and order concerns. Authorities said the decision is a precautionary measure to maintain public peace.
A spokesperson confirmed that the ban on flying drones outdoors will continue because of security risks. Small drones are allowed in halls and markets, the spokesperson added.
The Home Department said the law strictly prohibits holding public gatherings at any public place without prior permission. The display of weapons has also been completely banned across Punjab.
Law enforcement personnel are exempt from the restrictions while on duty. The official order also exempts wedding parties, funerals, and court proceedings from the ban.
District administrations and police have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of Section 144. Officials emphasized that any violation could result in legal action.
The notification further mentioned that the government may review the situation in coming weeks. Depending on developments, authorities may extend Section 144 further if required.
The restrictions will initially remain in effect for seven days, but the provincial government extends the authority to prolong it if security threats continue. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement and follow all rules.
Authorities warned that violating the ban could lead to fines, arrests, or other legal measures. They also stressed the importance of maintaining public safety during this period.
The Home Department said that monitoring will continue across the province. Police have increased patrolling in sensitive areas to ensure compliance with the extended order.
