ISLAMABAD โ The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has rejected reports about medicine shortages in the country. The association said there is no disruption in the supply of essential drugs.
In an official statement, the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association clarified that recent media claims about medicine shortages are not accurate. It said both essential and non-essential medicines are available in sufficient quantities.
The association explained that medicine prices have remained stable in recent months. This is despite rising fuel costs and higher import expenses. Freight charges and raw material costs have also increased due to the regional situation.
According to PPMA, the supply of key medicines continues without interruption. These include insulin, antibiotics, and cardiovascular drugs. Anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive medicines and vaccines are also available nationwide.
The association added that local manufacturers are managing production effectively. They are absorbing rising costs to avoid passing the burden to consumers. This effort ensures that patients continue to receive treatment without difficulty.
Officials highlighted that around 90 percent of medicines in Pakistan are produced locally. This strong domestic production helps prevent medicine shortages during challenging times. The sector also maintains adequate stocks of raw materials and finished products.
The PPMA emphasized that the distribution system is functioning smoothly. Medicines are reaching hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics without delays. This steady flow supports healthcare services across the country.
The association also urged media outlets to act responsibly. It advised against sharing unverified news about medicine shortages. Such reports can create panic among patients and disrupt public confidence.
Experts say misinformation can affect healthcare systems. Patients who depend on regular medication may feel unnecessary stress. Therefore, accurate reporting is essential during sensitive situations.
