Weight-Loss Injections Gain Popularity Among Soon-to-Be Brides in India

HYDERABAD, India โ€“ Weight-loss injections are becoming a popular choice for brides and grooms seeking rapid results before their weddings. Clinics across India now offer pre-wedding packages combining weight-loss injections, skincare, and fitness guidance.

New Delhiโ€™s Klarity Skin Clinic promotes a โ€œMounjaro brideโ€ program, which includes guided nutrition, workouts, and the use of Mounjaro, a GLP-1 medication approved for obesity and diabetes. Doctors report increasing inquiries from brides, and occasionally grooms, about weight-loss injections in preparation for their weddings.

Rajat Goel, a bariatric surgeon at Hindivine Healthcare, noted that over 20% of recent queries for obesity injections came from soon-to-be brides. He stressed that these drugs are prescribed only for medical eligibility, not for cosmetic use.

Weddings in India carry strong cultural expectations, often pressuring participants to meet certain physical appearance standards. Many brides and grooms seek weight-loss injections as a โ€œshortcutโ€ to achieve these expectations. For instance, Aditi, a 26-year-old from Mumbai, lost 10 kilograms using Mounjaro before her February wedding, saying it boosted her confidence.

The weight-loss injection market in India is expanding rapidly. Mounjaro and Novo Nordiskโ€™s Wegovy entered the country last year, with Mounjaro quickly becoming the top-selling option. The market is expected to reach 80 billion rupees ($851 million) by 2030. Local drugmakers have recently introduced cheaper versions of these drugs after patents expired, widening access.

Medical experts caution against misuse. Dr. Swati Pradhan, founder of Live Light wellness clinic, emphasized that injections should be used only under supervision and alongside lifestyle changes. Unauthorized or cosmetic use can pose serious health risks.

India faces one of the highest obesity rates in the world, with over 440 million people projected to be overweight or obese by 2050. While weight-loss injections offer rapid results, doctors encourage patients to combine them with diet and exercise for sustainable outcomes.
