Balochistan Fixes Price of Iranian Petrol at Rs280 Per Liter to Protect Consumers

QUETTA โ€“ The Balochistan government has officially set the price of Iranian Petrol at Rs280 per liter across the province. Authorities warned of strict legal action against anyone found selling fuel above this rate.

The decision aims to curb illegal profiteering and stabilize market fluctuations. Following a recent hike in petroleum prices nationwide, some vendors in Balochistan were reportedly selling Iranian Petrol at rates between Rs300 and Rs360 per liter. Officials emphasized that such practices will not be tolerated.

Balochistanโ€™s long border with Iran allows large quantities of cheaper Iranian Petrol to enter the province. This trade provides a livelihood for many local communities. By fixing the price, the government hopes to regulate the informal market and ensure affordable fuel for citizens.

The move comes amid nationwide petrol price surges. On April 3, 2026, Pakistanโ€™s petrol rates reached a record high of Rs458.41 per liter, sparking public criticism and widespread frustration. Traders warned of potential protests, while civil rights organizations urged the government to review the price hike.

In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reduced the petrol levy, bringing the price down to Rs378 per liter. Subsidies were also announced for motorcycles, goods transport vehicles, and passenger cars. Despite these measures, experts warn that the overall price increase may still impact food, transportation, and construction costs.

Officials in Balochistan stated that the fixed Iranian Petrol price would protect consumers while discouraging overcharging by vendors. Authorities said enforcement teams will monitor fuel stations, and violators will face immediate legal consequences.

The government urged citizens and traders to cooperate and follow the prescribed rates. This step is part of broader efforts to stabilize the fuel market and prevent further economic strain on residents of Balochistan.
