Islamabad at Center of Global Diplomacy as Iran–US Ceasefire Talks Begin

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s capital is hosting critical diplomatic talks today to secure a Ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Senior officials from both countries have arrived for high-level negotiations aimed at easing tensions.

Islamabad is under strict security ahead of the talks. Authorities have tightened measures across key areas. The negotiations come after recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran triggered a wider conflict. Thousands were killed, and regional peace was affected.

The situation also disrupted global energy markets. Instability near the Strait of Hormuz added further pressure. This route is vital for oil and gas shipments worldwide.

A Pakistan-mediated two-week Ceasefire between Washington and Tehran created space for dialogue. However, the Ceasefire remains fragile due to disagreements and continued violence in parts of the region, including Lebanon.

Delegations are expected to meet at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad’s Red Zone. The area has been sealed, and security is on high alert. Sources say the first round of talks will focus on setting the agenda for further discussions.

A key meeting is planned for tomorrow at a secure location. A direct meeting between US and Iranian officials is also possible. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar are expected to play key roles.

The US delegation is led by Vice President J.D. Vance. Senior officials, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are also present. Iran’s team is headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Talks will focus on reducing tensions and creating a framework for a lasting Ceasefire. Confidence-building measures are also expected to be discussed.

Pakistan has played a central role in bringing both sides together. Earlier, both countries submitted their demands for a Ceasefire. Pakistan compiled these into a draft with input from regional partners.

The United States is pushing for limits on Iran’s nuclear program and missile systems. It also wants security for key maritime routes. Iran is seeking guarantees against future attacks and relief from US sanctions.

Diplomatic experts believe these talks could improve US-Iran relations. They may also help stabilize the wider Middle East.

US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the negotiations. He said progress in Islamabad is positive. However, he warned that failure to reach a deal could worsen the situation.

The outcome of these talks may shape the future of regional peace and stability.
