Pakistan Grants 24/7 Operational Freedom to Call Centers Amid Energy Crisis

Islamabad โ€” The federal government has announced major relief for the IT sector. It has removed operating hour restrictions for call centers across Pakistan.

According to official details, the decision allows call centers and BPO companies to operate without time limits. This step has been taken to support digital services during the ongoing energy conservation measures.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shiza Khawaja confirmed the update. She said call centers can now continue work 24 hours a day. There will be no requirement to close during early shutdown timings applied to other commercial sectors.

The government has been enforcing energy-saving rules nationwide. Markets and shops have been asked to close early. However, call centers have been exempted due to their importance in the IT and outsourcing industry.

Officials explained that this exemption ensures uninterrupted services for international clients. It also helps maintain Pakistanโ€™s reputation in the global outsourcing market. The decision is expected to support growth in digital exports.

The ministry also clarified that local holidays announced in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will not apply to call centers. These holidays were earlier declared due to visiting foreign delegations. However, IT operations will continue without interruption.

Shaza Khawaja acknowledged that there were initial communication gaps. Some companies faced confusion about implementation. She assured that the government is working to fix these issues quickly.

To address industry concerns, call centers have been advised to coordinate with the Pakistan Software Export Board. A support system has been set up to handle complaints efficiently.

Officials said that issues reported through the PSEB portal will be resolved within 24 hours. This system aims to ensure smooth functioning of call centers nationwide.

The government emphasized that the BPO and IT sector is a key part of Pakistanโ€™s economy. Supporting call centers is seen as essential for increasing exports and creating employment opportunities.
