The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has confirmed that Interpol has issued Red Notices against Malik Riaz and his son, Ali Riaz. The announcement was made by NAB Chairman Lt General (r) Nazir Ahmed during a briefing on the bureau’s recent performance.
According to officials, Pakistani law enforcement agencies had requested Interpol to issue the notices. A Red Notice is used to locate and provisionally arrest individuals for possible extradition. The move indicates that authorities are seeking legal action against Malik Riaz and his son at the international level.
The NAB chairman stated that a special team is being prepared to pursue extradition proceedings. He said that all legal steps are being taken to bring the accused back to Pakistan. Officials believe that cooperation with international agencies will play a key role in the process.
During the briefing, Lt General (r) Nazir Ahmed also highlighted NAB’s recent achievements. He said the bureau recorded a recovery of Rs 2.962 trillion in the first quarter of 2026. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
NAB officials shared details of land recoveries across different regions. In Karachi and Sukkur, about 54,387 acres of government land were recovered. The estimated value of this land is Rs 2.89 trillion. In Lahore and Multan, authorities recovered 4,034 acres worth Rs 23.33 billion.
In Balochistan, NAB recovered 51,577 acres of land valued at Rs 36.54 billion. The chairman also said that large areas of government land have been identified for future recovery. Around 900,000 acres in Punjab and land worth Rs 10.96 trillion in Sindh have been marked for action.
In addition, NAB returned Rs 1.78 billion to over 6,000 victims in fraud cases. The bureau also recovered Rs 11.085 billion through plea bargains and fines. Officials emphasized that strict measures are being taken to prevent misuse of public assets.
The case involving Malik Riaz has attracted significant public attention. Observers say the issuance of Red Notices signals a serious step in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have stated that recovered assets will be deposited into the national treasury. The government has also formed task forces to ensure continued action against illegal land use.
