New details have emerged about the Tax included in petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan. The information comes after a recent revision in petroleum product rates. Officials from the Ministry of Energy shared a breakdown of the pricing structure.
According to sources, petrol prices include a significant portion of Tax. Around 32 percent of the price of one litre of petrol consists of taxes. This shows how fuel costs are influenced by multiple charges beyond the base price.
A single litre of petrol includes Rs129.72 in total taxes. In addition, customs duty on petrol stands at Rs23.72 per litre. These charges are part of the overall fuel pricing formula used by the government.
Officials also confirmed that petrol prices include a petroleum levy of Rs103.50 per litre. Along with this, a climate support levy of Rs2.50 per litre is added. These components increase the final cost paid by consumers at fuel stations.
For diesel, the share of Tax is slightly lower compared to petrol. Around 21 percent of the diesel price consists of taxes. However, the impact on transport and goods remains significant.
A single litre of diesel includes Rs82.81 in taxes. The customs duty on diesel is higher, reaching Rs51.62 per litre. This contributes to the overall increase in fuel prices across the country.
Diesel prices also include a petroleum levy of Rs28.69 per litre. Similar to petrol, a climate support levy of Rs2.50 per litre is also applied. These charges are added to maintain government revenue and support policy measures.
Experts say that fuel pricing depends on both global oil rates and domestic taxes. When international prices rise, the overall burden on consumers increases further. The role of Tax becomes more noticeable in such situations.
The breakdown highlights how taxes and levies form a major part of fuel costs. This structure directly affects inflation and transportation expenses. Higher fuel prices can impact daily life and economic activity.
