Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has inaugurated the Peshawar Ring Road Northern Section Package One. The project marks an important step toward improving traffic flow and connectivity in the provincial capital.
Under this package, a 2.1-kilometer missing link of the Ring Road has been completed. The project cost around Rs 2 billion. Officials say this section will help reduce congestion on major routes in the city.
Work is also progressing on other parts of the Ring Road. Construction is underway on Package Three, which stretches from Warsak Road to Nasir Bagh Road. Authorities confirmed that the total cost of the Northern Section Phase One stands at Rs 9.6 billion.
In addition, tenders have been issued for Phase Two and Phase Three of the missing links. These developments aim to complete the overall structure of the Ring Road network. The government plans to ensure smoother traffic movement across the city.
The Ring Road project is part of the larger Peshawar Revitalization Project. This development package is valued at Rs 200 billion. So far, projects worth Rs 171 billion have already been approved under this initiative.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister said the revitalization plan will transform Peshawar. He stated that the project will improve infrastructure and enhance the city’s appearance. According to him, Peshawar’s development reflects the progress of the entire province.
He also highlighted earlier achievements, including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. The government now aims to further strengthen urban infrastructure through the Ring Road expansion.
The chief minister announced that the feasibility study for the Outer Ring Road will be completed soon. This future project is expected to provide additional relief to traffic pressure in the city.
During his speech, he addressed criticism of the revitalization efforts. He challenged opponents to present proof if they have concerns about transparency. He assured that strict action would be taken in case of any irregularities.
He also raised concerns about resource distribution in the province. He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s share in the NFC award could increase if revised. He emphasized that the province produces significant gas and electricity, much of which is supplied to other regions.
