Police in Karachi have launched a large-scale crackdown against drug users and dealers in several city areas. The ongoing action is part of a wider anti-drug operation targeting illegal narcotics activity.
According to police officials, the anti-drug operation has been active for three consecutive days in Pak Colony, Mewa Shah, and Jahan Abad. Authorities say the goal is to clean up drug-affected neighborhoods and support rehabilitation efforts.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza confirmed that over 220 drug addicts were detained in a single day. They were shifted to rehabilitation centres for treatment and recovery.
He added that during the three-day anti-drug operation, more than 480 drug users have already been sent to rehabilitation facilities. Officials say this step is part of long-term recovery and reintegration efforts.
Police also reported a separate encounter during the anti-drug operation. Three suspects, including two injured individuals, were arrested. The arrested men were identified as Osama, Mairaj, and Wahab.
Authorities said weapons were recovered from the suspects. Police also confirmed that drug dealers threw a hand grenade at officers. Fortunately, the device did not explode, and no injuries were reported.
Officials say such incidents highlight the dangers faced during the anti-drug operation in high-risk areas. Despite threats, police continue their action against illegal networks.
In a separate development earlier this year, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a raid in Baloch Colony. Two alleged drug dealers were arrested during that operation.
According to SIU officials, more than five kilograms of hashish were recovered. Weapons including a rifle, sub-machine gun, and 9mm pistol were also seized.
SSP SIU Dr Imran stated that one of the suspects allegedly ran a drug network operating locally and internationally. The second accused was reportedly linked to drug supply activities and worked as a court employee.
Officials say these cases show the scale of the drug problem in the city. The ongoing anti-drug operation aims to dismantle supply chains and reduce addiction.
Police have assured that the crackdown will continue in all affected areas. They also emphasized rehabilitation support for detained addicts alongside enforcement actions.
