Heatwave Alert: PMD Warns Temperatures May Reach 50°C in Coming Days

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather alert. The department predicts temperatures will rise sharply across several parts of the country. Heatwave conditions are expected from 7 to 11 May in southern and central regions.

According to the PMD, high pressure in the upper atmosphere is driving this weather pattern. The department predicts temperatures may reach extreme levels during the day in multiple cities. Upper regions are also expected to experience intense heat from 8 to 10 May.

Officials said maximum daytime temperatures could rise between 46 to 50°C in several southern districts. These include Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nausheroferoze, Jacobabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Sibbi, Turbat, and Panjgur.

The PMD further predicts temperatures of 43 to 47°C in areas of southern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These include Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

For upper parts of the country, the department predicts temperatures between 39 to 43°C. Cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Gujranwala will also experience very hot conditions.

In Karachi, weather officials said temperatures will remain between 35 and 38°C. The city is expected to face continued hot and dry weather during the forecast period.

The PMD also mentioned a shallow westerly wave expected on 10 May. This system may bring some relief in upper regions. It is likely to continue until 13 May.

Officials warned that heatwave conditions may affect daily life. The public has been advised to take precautionary measures. Children, women, and elderly citizens are especially at risk.

Farmers have been asked to adjust their agricultural activities. They are also advised to protect livestock from extreme heat.

The PMD strongly recommends avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours. Citizens are urged to stay hydrated and use water carefully.

As the weather system develops, the PMD continues to monitor conditions closely. The department predicts temperatures will remain high until the system weakens in mid-May.
