Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has reportedly received an invitation to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Board meeting in India and watch the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to reports, the ICC Board meeting is scheduled to take place on May 30 and May 31 in Ahmedabad. Before that, the ICC Chief Executives Committee will hold a virtual meeting on May 21.
Sources told local media that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will decide whether Mohsin Naqvi will travel to India for the meeting. Naqvi currently serves as both PCB chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister.
Reports said there is still uncertainty regarding Mohsin Naqvi’s participation in the ICC event because of the political and diplomatic sensitivities between Pakistan and India.
The ICC Board meeting is expected to focus on possible changes to the format of the World Test Championship (WTC). Discussions may include expanding the number of participating teams from nine to twelve.
According to cricket reports, a working group led by former New Zealand cricketer Roger Twose has prepared proposals for the revised structure of the tournament.
The proposed changes could allow teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan to join the World Test Championship in future editions.
At present, the championship includes nine Test-playing nations. The current structure also requires teams to play at least two matches in every Test series.
ICC officials reportedly hope to finalize the proposed WTC structure before another important cricket meeting planned in Edinburgh in July.
The ICC meeting was originally expected to take place in Doha. However, reports stated that the event was postponed due to the security and political situation in the Gulf region.
The possible visit of Mohsin Naqvi to India has already attracted attention from cricket fans and observers in both countries. His attendance could become an important development in cricket relations between Pakistan and India.
The invitation also comes at a time when cricket administration and international tournament structures are undergoing major discussions within the ICC.
