Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held an important meeting with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev during her official visit to Baku, as both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding economic partnerships.
Maryam Nawaz arrived in Azerbaijan along with a high-level delegation on a three-day official visit focused on diplomacy, investment, and development cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
The Punjab chief minister received a warm welcome upon arrival at Baku Airport. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister for Defence Industry Mehman Bakhshiyev personally welcomed the delegation.
The reception was also attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin along with their spouses.
Officials described the visit as an important step toward improving relations between the two countries.
A major highlight of the visit was the scheduled meeting between Maryam Nawaz and President Ilham Aliyev on May 17.
During the discussions, both sides focused on increasing investment opportunities, improving trade cooperation, and strengthening development partnerships between Punjab and Azerbaijan.
Officials said the meeting reflected growing diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in recent years.
Maryam Nawaz is visiting Azerbaijan as an official guest of the Azerbaijani government. The visit is aimed at creating stronger economic and institutional links between the two sides.
According to officials, the talks also explored opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure, urban development, and housing projects.
During her stay in Baku, Maryam Nawaz will also represent Punjab at the World Urban Forum.
She is expected to address the World Leaders Summit at the Baku Olympic Stadium, where global leaders and policymakers are participating in discussions related to urban development and sustainable growth.
The Punjab chief minister will also present Punjab’s flagship housing initiative “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” before international participants and development experts.
Officials believe the presentation could help attract international attention and possible investment opportunities for housing and development projects in Punjab.
The visit comes at a time when Pakistan is seeking stronger regional partnerships and economic cooperation with friendly countries.
Analysts say Azerbaijan has emerged as an important regional partner for Pakistan in areas including trade, investment, energy, and diplomacy.
The visit by Maryam Nawaz is being viewed as part of broader efforts to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen people-to-people and institutional relations between the two countries.
