Sindh Govt Approves 500 New EV Buses to Improve Karachi’s Public Transport

The Sindh govt has approved the purchase of 500 new electric vehicle buses to strengthen public transport services across the province.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon made the announcement during an event in Karachi. He said the new buses will be acquired through a public-private partnership model.

The decision is part of broader efforts by the Sindh govt to modernize the transport system and improve travel facilities for citizens.

Sharjeel Memon said the new electric buses will help provide cleaner and more efficient transportation. He added that the project reflects the government’s focus on sustainable urban mobility.

The announcement came during the inauguration ceremony of a new 33-kilometer electric bus route in Karachi.

The newly launched route connects Gulshan Maymar to Tower. It is expected to improve daily commuting for thousands of passengers.

Earlier in March, Sharjeel Memon had announced plans for this route. The latest launch marks another step in expanding electric transport services in the city.

Several key officials attended the ceremony. These included Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad, and MNA Shahida Rehmani.

Sharjeel Memon praised ongoing development projects in Karachi. He highlighted progress in infrastructure, sanitation, and water supply improvements.

He also appreciated Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s efforts for the city’s development. He said work is continuing day and night to improve urban facilities.

The Sindh govt aims to expand the People’s Bus Service further. Sharjeel Memon said the goal is to extend the service to every street, road, and neighborhood of Karachi.

He also pointed to the success of the pink bus service. These buses were introduced as a women-friendly transport option.

According to the minister, the pink buses are the first of their kind in the region. They have been widely appreciated for improving safe travel for women.

The addition of 500 more EV buses will significantly increase transport capacity. It will also reduce dependence on fuel-powered vehicles.

Experts believe electric buses can lower air pollution in major cities. They also offer a cost-effective solution for long-term transport planning.

The latest move shows the Sindh govt is prioritizing modern public transport solutions.
