Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered authorities across the province to ensure Strict Checking of buses and transport terminals ahead of Eidul Azha. The move aims to protect passengers from overcharging and improve travel arrangements during the busy holiday season.
According to reports, the chief minister directed deputy commissioners and district police officers to increase monitoring at bus terminals in all districts of Punjab. Officials have been instructed to maintain Strict Checking of transport services as large numbers of people prepare to travel for Eid celebrations.
In a statement issued from Lahore on Monday, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that passengers should not face unnecessary difficulties during Eid travel. She instructed transport authorities to display official fare lists clearly on every bus and at all bus stands across the province.
The Punjab government wants to prevent transporters from charging extra fares during the Eid rush. Authorities said Strict Checking teams would inspect buses and terminals regularly to ensure transport companies follow government-approved rates.
Maryam Nawaz also warned that strict action would be taken against transporters found violating regulations. According to the directives, buses involved in overcharging passengers could face cancellation of route permits.
In addition, the licences of bus terminals violating transport rules may also be revoked. Officials said transport operators have been informed to comply fully with the government’s instructions during the Eid holidays.
The Punjab Transport Department has also introduced measures to help passengers report complaints quickly. A special helpline, 1071, has been established for commuters facing overcharging or transport-related issues.
Passengers can call the helpline to lodge complaints against bus operators demanding fares higher than the official rates. Authorities said complaint teams would remain active during Eid to respond to public concerns.
The decision comes as thousands of people are expected to travel from major cities to their hometowns before Eidul Azha. Bus terminals usually witness heavy crowds during this period, increasing the risk of fare hikes and transport mismanagement.
Officials said the government is focusing on passenger safety, fair ticket pricing, and smooth transport operations during the holiday season. Special monitoring squads may also conduct surprise inspections at major transport hubs.
Strict Checking measures are expected to continue throughout the Eid holidays to ensure transport companies follow regulations. Authorities believe the crackdown will help reduce complaints and provide relief to travelers.
